2015 marks 17 years since I began my journey as an independent marketing advisor. I am thrilled to have made this leap, but also realize that it’s time to reflect on what’s happened since I left the corporate world and re-introduce myself to many colleagues old and new who only know a small piece of the story.
The first half of my work life was spent in Corporate America– an opportunity to apprentice, then lead, inside a large organization. Thankfully I was able follow my international passion, overseas to Asia and Europe, and contribute to and experience the complete transformation of an industry – telecommunications. I was dedicated to the point that in Hong Kong some colleagues just called me “Miss NYNEX!” That’s Part I.
Then I hit the streets to build a marketing advisory practice and coincidentally, two previous websites. That’s Part II. I’ve just launched my third website since I began consulting and that prompted the most profound analysis of my personal value proposition. What really makes me different than the hundreds of marketing advisors who have left corporate careers? How can I now better serve clients than 17 year ago?
What I learned is that the corporate marketing and new business development experience {Part I} combined with the independent advisory practice {Part II} combined with life and leadership in a culture rich community {Part III} and my own life as an artist, married to a master craftsmen has created a new persona – one that leverages every aspect of my personal and professional life to build interesting relationships to help my clients and community reach their growth goals. When all else is equal, particularly in our technology-enabled world, relationships are a key differentiator. This is true in the art world as well.Rest assured, this experience is used to ensure that my clients past, present, and future see creativity and passion applied on their behalf as we seek the next business growth challenge.
I am immensely grateful for a rich list of clients that have allowed me to assist in business growth challenges and uncover important insights. Many of these are summarized in mini-case studies on this website. Whether you saw this here or continued from LinkedIn, please join me in celebrating Part III– a website, advisory practice, and lifestyle Powered by Art, Empowered by Marketing!
